Why Mike Johnson is Running for Rivanna Supervisor.
We can and must do better…
For too long Albemarle County has been subjected to monolithic thinking and closed processes as exhibited regularly by the Board of Supervisors. High taxation and free-spending policies are driving out life-long residents and more recent transplants, alike. We can no longer accept the status quo. “That’s how we’ve always done it,” is not the correct answer to the myriad problems we face. Mike Johnson, a mathematician and scientist by profession, will take a cooperative, analytical approach to problem-solving, and in doing so, he will work to restore representative government to Albemarle County.
Mike Johnson’s clear vision on important issues:
No Rain Tax The “Rain Tax” came and went, but how could Supervisors allow such a preposterous, destructive scheme to reach the voting stage in the first place? Mike Johnson will stand strong against such ridiculous proposals.
Revenue Sharing It's time to take another look at the unfair deal that binds Albemarle County taxpayers to Charlottesville's outrageous spending. For our residents, this is taxation without representation.
Education I support a rigorous back-to-basics curriculum. Our students should not need remedial courses when they enter college. We should empower teachers to do what they do best: TEACH!
Control Spending Over the last eight years, County spending has increased $100 million. In the most recent year, real estate taxes increased by 5.25 percent on average; these are likely to another another 2 percent or more, next year. This represents real money for many Albemarle residents, many of whom are barely getting by.
